Workshop Faculty of Health / Education Portfolio +DBS

Sarah and I attended a strategic planning workshop with the Faculty of Health (7 November). The workshop was organised by Professor Kevin Ashford-Rowe (Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning and Teaching)). The intention was to provide a joined-up approach for the Faculty – with representatives from each area of the Education Portfolio listening to the needs of the Faculty and providing information about how we might help with their priorities. Professor Robina Xavier (Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Education)) spoke about the QUT, Australian and international context for learning and teaching. Professor Patsy Yates (Executive Dean) spoke about the challenges and priorities for the Faculty (including the need to produce work-ready graduates; the challenges faced by the health sector and our value as a “real world” education provider. Heads of School also provided their own insights.  It is hoped that similar sessions will be held for other Faculties in 2023. If you would like more information please email me or come and see me and I’m happy to discuss.

University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ) Visit

A large group of staff from UniSQ visited Gardens Point Library on 21 November. The team were made up of representatives from their Equity Committee, as well as service managers. They were keen to know more about the work we have done around to make our spaces welcoming and inclusive for LGBTIQA+ students and staff, as well as students with low sensory needs. We also discussed our tiered service model.

Library All Staff Reward and Recognition (R&R) Event

It was great to celebrate the end of a big year with the annual Library Reward and Recognition Event (23 November). It was wonderful to get together to celebrate with library colleagues and to be joined by Professor Robina Xavier (Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Education)).  The event kicked off in spectacular style with the fun, and highly competitive “Amazing Library Race.”
