Thank you so much for a great session today in our promotion club. Colleagues are raving about how useful your presentations were and I know some people found citations etc that they never knew existed!
Once we have your Powerpoints we will also save these in the Teams folder. Sorry, I had to dash, someone was waiting to get into my room.

Thank you for community engagement activities
Thank you Sally for attending the Australian Centre for Health Law Research 9th Annual Public Oration – Andrew Denton & Justice Applegarth AM on the 12th March. The topic was the process of enacting voluntary assisted dying laws in 5 states, with Queensland being the most recent. The use of research in lobbying for change was discussed in the political context, including when misinformation campaigns are run by large organisations. The support of the Nurses Union in getting the bills through was mentioned a few times.
Feedback on metrics and grant application support
Hi Sally
Many thanks for your call this afternoon.
You have been so kind and supportive in assisting me to find this information for the Investigator grant.
I find that Overton and Altmetrics were quite useful in terms of impact…which picked up a few extra pieces of evidence that I was able to include.
I am also grateful for the summary that you sent through. Although I had used it to draft my responses, at the last minute when I was asked to change something, this was my go to!
Kind Regards
xxxxx RN PhD | Churchill Fellow
Feedback on help with predatory publishers
Thanks Sally,
That is fabulous information. I went looking for costs and did not find this information so thank you and taking this all into consideration, I am not going to pursue.
I really appreciate you looking into this.

Education Team
Well done to Denise for delivering these classes and for receiving some wonderful feedback:
6 (six) classes for Master of Education student (supported by relevant learning objects on Blackboard). Feedback received:
- The showing of all the tools has been the most beneficial, and I have done research! Cannot name one thing that needs to be changed. Amazing and so useful!
- This should be mandatory learning at the BEGINNING of each Masters degree .
- Thank you so much for the very informative session last night on survey ethics, how to use Scopus and SAGE research methods online!! I just finished watching the recording of our lecture from last night and I am inspired by your enthusiasm and all the wonderful resource we have available to help us succeed in our study!
7 (seven) blended classes for students – hands-on (at Curriculum Collection) and online (supported by relevant learning objects on Blackboard). Feedback received:
- All was useful! Everything was explained clearly and helped me understand what resources I have access to online and how I can access them (I am an online student).
- Everything was useful!! A tour of the classroom resources and how to get there/how to use through blackboard. It was all fantastic! Really useful
Well done to Gillian for spending approximately 2 (two) hours helping the Investigative Associate staff member hired to set up alerts for the 200 plus academics working/ affiliated with the Digital Child centre.
Extreme Weather Working Arrangements and Recovery Projects
Following the extreme weather events that impacted both campuses, staff worked from home until Friday 11th March
Thank you to all the our KG staff and teams and GP colleagues who worked on resolving issues and undertaking recovery tasks;
- Teresa and her team with the help from Cameron and his team worked on KG campus on Monday 7th March – Tuesday 8th March to scan the barcodes of the water damaged books, bag them up in zip lock bags and put them aside as part of the clean-up
- Catherine Haden reviewed the list of the Psychology books that were water damaged and ordered replacement copies as appropriate
- Temporarily closing Level 6 (Researches’ Centre) and parts of Level 5 to allow for cleaning and repair works with the help of FM, Cleaning Services and Security
- Switching our service delivery to on-line mode
Library Tours
We played a part in the Welcome Week by offering short physical KG Library tours. The tours took place on Tuesday 15th March, Wednesday 16th March and Monday 21st March between 11am and 2pm and ran for 20 – 30 minutes. We offered this tour in order to welcome students to our spaces, to let them know about the services and resources that are available in our library and to show them who we are behind the screens. Students who took part on this activity were given free QUT T-Shirts at the end of the tour.
Thank you to Danielle for working with Kate Thomas and David to rework the scripts for the tours from a more librarian perspective and to Jenny Clouston, Helen B and Helen D for leading the tours!
Clothing Repair Café
We were thrilled to be able to provide the (link) space that we have between R & E Block for the Sustainability Team to run a Clothing Repair Café on Wednesday 16th March. The aim of this event was to help build a circular fashion economy and reduce the environmental and social impacts of fast fashion.
Students and staff were welcome to bring in their small sewing fix-it jobs to QUT fashion students and get them fixed while learning how to easily mend their own clothing. What a clever idea!
New Senior Library Advisor
Following an external recruitment process, Danielle Laing has been appointed to the Senior Library Adviser role at KG Library effective as of Monday 14th March.
Danielle holds a Master of Information and Technology and has been working in different roles in QUT Library and HiQ for the last 7 years. She has extensive experience delivering, designing, and improving customer focused support services for students and a proven track record of supervising, training, coordinating and leading teams to successfully deliver those support services for students.
Congratulations Danielle!!
Great Book Swap Morning Tea
On Friday 18th March we held a Great Book Swap Morning Tea to support the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) to provide books and learning resources to children living in remote Communities across Australia.
This year the ILF are aiming raise $150,000 to gift 15,000 new books to remote Communities.
To date KG Library Team has raised $279.50 worth of donation. Thank you for your generous contribution!
Special thank you to Catherine Radbourne for helping Mimy in organizing the event!
24/7 Access Trial
After months of extensive planning, preparation and collaboration with various partners (ie. Security, HSE and FM), the highly anticipated 24/7 access trial was launched on Monday 21st March. From this date, both students and staff can access our library between 8pm and 7am weekdays and 5pm and 9am on weekends by swiping their QUT ID card. After hour access is from the main entrance door opposite Gather Café and Bar. QUT Security regularly monitor the buildings during the extended hours and both students and staff are encouraged to carry a mobile phone and download the SafeZone app.
The trial has gone well so far and we have recorded an impressive number of 1,898 entries across GP and KG libraries in the first week. Duress buttons will be installed on each level of the Libraries.
This is a one-month trial but we hope to continue for the remainder of the semester and beyond.
On the Horizon
- Deselection activities for KG Library’s collection
- To assess the whole physical collection at KG Library, ie. layout, position, shelving, distances, etc. to increase discoverability, use and access for all abilities
- Instalments of 3D models in the display cabinets on Level 2
- Welcome morning tea for School of Justice and S4J Team 4 April
