🔦 Highlights

• Preparing Kendall Kousek’s orientation program, for her start as our new Resource Team Leader on 1/8
• Awesome work from our fab four Success Champions: the “LRS-RTL Angels” (higher duties Resource Team Leaders): Donna Powell, Greg Steele, Mary Harlow, and Maryann Loneragan. You kept LRS workflows humming whilst we waited for Kendall: thank you!

• MLRS undertook Risk Assessment training
• Reviewing MOPP F/1.8: Library resources and borrowing with ADL and Information Access Coordinator
• MLRS accepted as QUT’s mentor in the ALIA Mentoring scheme: matched with a mentee at CQU
• MLRS accepted as a coachee in QUT’s Internal Coaching Pilot program, and into QUT Coaching Training
• The ALIA Professional Pathways framework consultation launch, via Zoom
• Curtain student placement, with QDC project – Linda Bull welcomed for 15 weeks
• QUT STEP program for Nicholas Morgan (QUT Marketing and Comms)

🔎 Issues (ongoing and emerging)

• Service delivery with staff gaps continues from 2021 (1 less RL, and 2 less RAs) – however, recruitment for a new HEW6 Resource Coordinator (Readings), and 0.7 EFT HEW4 Resource Assistant got underway!
• New rodent friend in roof in LRS’ smaller wing 🐀
• Finally repaired: semi-continuously beeping sliding doors into LRS 😱 Thanks to Marina and Nat for persevering!

⛷️ Major Future Activities

• Staffing: acclimating Kendall to her new RTL role; recruiting two new team members; looking for opportunities to streamline LRS workflows as a result of all these fresh eyes. Exciting times ahead
• Subscription renewals ramping up

👐 Indigenous Strategy

• Assisted the UL progress a SAGE scholarship venture with CSU
• Attended the Library’s first yarning circle with Uncle Cheg, at GP’s Elder’s Garden
• Purchased some great books from the NAIDOC week Indigenous Bookfair at GP
• Attended “Reimagine descriptive workflows: an Australasian perspective” via Zoom, hosted by the NSLA and OCLC

Owned Services

📈  Information Resources:

• CAUL Content Coordinators’ monthly meeting – update on new R&P offers and subscription renewals under negotiation; refresher on the use of Consortia Manager (the platform used for managing CAUL deals)
• Complex EBSCO renewals for 2023, continue (thanks Mary, Susan and Adam)
• Discussions with EBSCO around QUT no longer paying on estimated subscription renewal pricing: new model proffered
• Virtual vendor meetings: Kanopy (new rep meet and greet), Bloomsbury, Elsevier
• Issue with LexisNexis use by a couple of QUT students – escalated to CAUL. Users identified by LN, and contacted directly by them – most unsatisfactory
• QULOC Information Resources Working Group meeting, with new convenor – discussion on items of interest from each institution’s submitted report – of particular common interest: VitalSource, AustlII
• Supporting Rosie Glynn (health LL team) in her bid to crack the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia’s pricing model for access to their key online resource
• Big increase in one-off spending this month, due to the uptake of Rialto. Funds will need to be reallocated within Alma should the uptick continue

July 2022: Specific Collection Use

• QDC liaises regularly with QUT Records, Marketing and Comms, Alumni, and Chancellery staff on queries they receive and pass on. Jill passes on images/ ideas for Throwback Thursday (usually on QUT Twitter) and other ideas for stories re QDC materials
• Continued to work with Google Arts and Culture for the launch in Jan 2023 of selected QUT images and writing exhibitions in readiness. Getting closer with ingest of Asia Pacific collection metadata; just have to add images
• Great help always from CA staff at GP and KG with digitisation of items. Brett Rock (CA GP) working on digitising a beautiful book re Brisbane 1823 to 1923 loaned to us by Dr Lyndal O’Gorman
• Zach Dominello is continuing  a STEP program with QDC. One hour per week in person, and when he can do other tasks from his desk

📖  QUT Readings:

• Looking into availability of data by faculty, for Quality and Planning Manager
• Ongoing liaison with the DBS LMS+ Project team regarding integration of Talis with Canvas
• Readings rollovers completed for Semester 2
• Reading List Working Group (RLWG) held
• Readings SharePoint usage statistics – considering best terminology for “Items + Sections + Lists = Total Visits”; settled on ‘Visits’
• Readings’ Newer Editions report for LLs – fortnightly report sent to RLWG
