Uncle Gregory (Cheg) Egert meets with Library Staff
On 26 July, along with around 25 library colleagues, I had the privilege of meeting with QUT’s Elder in Residence, Uncle Gregory (Cheg) Egert in the new Elder Garden at Gardens Point campus. Uncle Cheg spoke about his story, his love of libraries and some of his plans for the future, including ways we could partner more.
Indigenous Literacy Book Sale
The third QUT Indigenous Literacy Foundation Book Sale was held on 22 July. The Library partnered with the QUT Art Museum to host the event which raised money for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, a not-for- profit organisation that provides books and learning resources to children and families living in remote Communities across Australia. Thank you to the Collection Access staff who were involved.
NAIDOC Week Film and Panel
During NAIDOC Week, the Library partnered with the Faculty of Health to hold a film screening and panel discussion of the film “Incarceration Nation.” Kevin Yow Yeh facilitated the panel and spoke with Neta-Rie Mabo (Sisters Inside) and Bob Smith (Department of Education).
Texta Book Club
I had the pleasure of co-hosting my second Texta Book Club at the QUT Art Museum – with Renae Belton – on 12 July. The book was “Bewilderment” by Richard Powers.
The next book club will be on Tuesday 18 October where we will be discussing “The Jaguar” by QUT academic Sarah Holland-Batt. Details here. Come along.

I attended a morning tea on 29 July, hosted by State Library Queensland, to celebrate Library and Information Week.
ALIA Professional Pathways
QUT hosted a consultation workshop as part of the consultation process for the ALIA Professional Pathways paper. We have until 31 October to provide feedback on this important paper which will shape the future of our profession. You can do so here.
Pacific Adventist University Library
I met with Ita Kemba and Cindy Lola from the Pacific Adventist University Library in Port Moresby on 22 July to discuss services to remote students .
Cathie Warburton – ALIA CEO
On 21 July I met with the new CEO of ALIA, Cathy Warburton, to discuss our priorities and her thoughts about the future.
Queensland Business Leaders Hall of Fame – 14 July
I was fortunate to attend the Queensland Business Leaders Hall of Fame dinner for new inductees on 14 July as a guest of the Registrar, Leanne Harvey. The dinner was hosted by the State Library of Queensland and QUT is a sponsor.
