L&R team
- Whilst working from home, L&R staff continued with their regular morning coffee catchups over Teams each morning as a way to continue to stay connected.
- Liaison teams have undertaken many metrics reports for researchers over summer.
- Senior Library Advisers and the LA team have worked closely with Caroline as Enquiry Services Manager to shape Enquiry Services for semester 1, 2022, taking into account this uncertain new world. I would like to commend this whole team for remaining calm under pressure and being flexible and adaptable in changing services when required. Thank you!
Collection Access team
The CA team has been really busy over summer!
- They have undertaken regular testing of the new resource sharing module. More training to come.
- The relocation and interfiling of the Justice collection from Law to KG was completed over summer with help from the GP CA team. This was a big body of work for each branch, thank you! Great job.
- They have been conducting stocktake at GP using a new method with the RFID wand. The process is new and learnings are being documented for future stocktakes, the next one being Law.
- Deselection of monographs (secondary collection) completed at Law in anticipation of planned new configuration of space
- Undertaken annual relocation of print titles from GP to Library Store
- Cameron was asked to coordinate the distribution of RAT kits to certain staff in the Academic Division. The task was eventually given to Security, but thanks for being willing to coordinate this task Cameron!
GP Library displays
Stephanie Jacobs is our display master, thanks Stephanie! Here are her displays from the last few months, including the display done by our fieldwork students Connor and Emily.
Living sustainably Take time for yourself
404 display not found? Get your game on, by Connor and Emily
Wellness
Jacque & Jen had their regular catchup whilst taking some e-bikes out for a spin, for wellness!
Bouquets
Positive feedback for Graham Dawson for his work in curating reading lists for UXH311:
The reading list looks awesome and includes some really good texts that will provide additional information to students. I use a number of these myself in my law practice.
Thanks Tracey, That’s good news. Graham has been working hard behind the scenes across many units and very grateful for his help. Cheers Jason
Coming up …
- Getting ready for 24/7 opening! Proposal has been approved with some contingencies. Proposed start date is 28 Feb, 2022.
- Teams getting ready for semester 1 orientation and teaching.
- Need to appoint a new Deputy Building Warden at GP Library to support Cameron in his role as Chief Building Warden.
- GP’s strategic planning will be developed following LLT strategic planning activities
- Implementing new online PPR form for staff, reflecting strategic priorities
- FM have indicated that the GP Level 7 toilets have been flagged for refurbishment. More discussions to take place but hopefully these works will take place by mid-2022.
- SSG have reached out to the Library to partner with them again on the Night Against Procrastination to be held in week 13
Web and Digital Engagement Service
The Service Vision for the Web and Digital Engagement Service for 2022 has been drafted and is available on SharePoint.
Study pages on HiQ site
- Jenny and Gabrielle have been working with SSG and HiQ staff on the refresh of the Study pages on the HiQ student portal. This work is progressing well! The foundations of the site are being updated and strengthened and the next step is to consider how the information is packaged to students.
QUT Cite | Write
- Kate Harbison and the QUT Cite | Write team have been making their usual round of bi-annual updates, prior to semester. The biggest change is that the Vancouver style has been updated to reflect the AMA style (replacing NLM style). Affected academics have been notified and feedback is always welcome.
- The APA citation generator in Library Search has been suppressed temporarily due to a vendor bug, due to be fixed in May. LAs and LLs have been notified should they receive queries from students or staff.
Researching by Study Area guides & Course and Unit guides
- With advice from the IA team, liaison teams are working on updating links in their guides to ensure compliance with Open Athens – with an April deadline.
- An EOI was circulated seeking expressions of interest from LAs and LLs who have an interest in helping to influence and improve the governance and operations of Course and Unit guides and Researching by Study Area guides. EOIs close on Friday 18 Feb – send them to Jenny Thomas at ja.thomas@qut.edu.au
Video-hosting
- A meeting was held with staff who have an interest in the Library’s video-hosting tools, including QUT Media Hub, YouTube, ClickView, EduTV, Alexander Street Press, etc. The plan is to create some governance around how the Library hosts the videos we create, and around advice we give to academics. Work continues…
Study Smart
- Study Smart videos were updated over the summer break, in time for semester 1 2022. Big thanks to Danielle Laing, Thu Hoang, Zach Dominello, Helen Davies, Stephanie Jacobs and Gabrielle Hayes (and Megan Brodribb in absentia!) for this work.
Coming up for the Web service … plenty …
- Jenny T will work with Joanna on determining the statistics that are to be kept for the service
- FAQs in AskQUT relating to the web service were audited for relevancy over summer and certain FAQS will be deleted or have ownership transferred
- Will ask liaison teams to show all aspects of their guides some love, not just links for Open Athens. This includes deleting old, unused guides and ensuring existing guides are used and up-to-date
- Start looking at the Library’s Help and support pages
- Form a web service group which will oversee service operations
- Create a Web Service SharePoint site, where key documentation can be shared and stored
