Library Advisers (Kate Thomas)
GP LAs continued to provide outstanding service during the month. August spanned weeks 2 to 6 which included peak service provision from the first big batch of assignment due dates for the semester. We made a big difference to students via:
- 330 Chats
- 28 appointments
- 18 hours Law Helpdesk coverage
- 2 workshops with 18 attendees
Chat feedback shows just how grateful students are not just for the answers we provide, but the way we deliver that help and the extra lengths we go to:
- “the person who chatted with me was friendly, prompt and very helpful”
- “the staff member was able to help me come up with a good solution to my enquiry”
- “just – thank you. It’s great to have this service and to be able to have this help – particularly as I’m not in Brisbane”
- “xxx is always very helpful, has helped me three times now”
- “xxx was so helpful and knowledgeable”
- “went to extra lengths to be extremely helpful”
- “quick, helpful and efficient response”
Outside of delivering the Library Enquiry Service, the GP LAs have also been adding great value with the following tasks:
- Eileen & Ishara worked collaboratively on updating the Library Researching and Referencing Appointments Procedures
- Kate led the review & streamline of Library Enquiry Service Procedures, restructuring page navigation, culling 18 extraneous borrowing procedures LAs don’t need, updating links to improve version control, thus making it easier to quickly access the current and relevant procedures
- Ishara took part in the CAUL workshop planning and delivery
- Kate provided fieldwork student Kia with overview of Library Enquiry Service, and the functions of the LA and SLA roles
- Eileen worked on the maps libguides
- Steph and Kate participated in the Information Literacy Framework Review
- Steph presented at CAUL conference on 23 Scholarly Communication Things
- Kate and Steph edited AskQUT standard texts in preparation for promotion of InSync survey
- Steph and Kate participated in the review of Schools Program SharePoint and Workshops
- Kate continued creation of the Library Adviser’s One Stop Shop
Wellness (Michael Hawks)
To recognise R U OK week and the day itself, we shamelessly copied LRS’ great idea and held an R U OK, to play? morning tea, combined with the Law Library. With a selection of yellow coloured treats (because we are nothing if not on brand), we competed in a game of Codenames: Pictures. Our two rival spymasters, Kate and Steph, were tasked to give cryptic clues to their teams, who needed to decode the message and identify the correct picture from the selection in front of them.
Accolades (Michael Hawks)
Michael received the following feedback from Kia, our fieldwork student:
“I’d also like to thank you and everyone else in the QUT library again for lending me your time and resources as well as being very nice and welcoming people during my placement. Everyone helped make it not only a fruitful experience in terms of gaining useful fieldwork experience and insight into how the entire library operates, but also a super positive one with how friendly and willing to help everyone was.”
Success Champions
Michael, Stephanie and Laura were the recipients of the Coffee and Cake vouchers for assisting with The Amazing Race event.
