Vietnamese Post Graduate Students Pre-Departure Program

Gillian was invited to address a group of Vietnamese students who were about to travel to study in Australia at the Universities of their choice. They were Post Graduate students. This AusAward program was to help them prepare culturally and academically for life and study in Australia.  Gillian’s role was to introduce them to the services of Australian University Libraries.  63 students attended – two of the presenters were currently studying in Australia – one at the University of Tasmania and one at QUT. They presented their sage advice on how the experience went and any hints/ tips they had for the incoming students. Current QUT student, Adam is studying Design and therefore moves between the two campuses. He spoke highly of QUT Libraries and how the best advice he had been given was around how to skim articles since he had been unused to big sets of readings. Well done team!

CA Team

Our wonderful Collection Access Team received a very nice compliment from an Academic Staff from School of Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations via ASKQUT. Well done CA team!

Education Team

  • Well done to Denise for receiving great compliments from Associate Professor Margaret Kettle from School of Teacher Education & Leadership for delivering two sessions for the Introduction to Sociolinguistics unit in the Master of Education (EUN644)!

Hi Denise,

Also I want to acknowledge your input on library skills in my MEd classes. The assignments are showing extensive sourcing of references which I put down to your input.

Through the additional access to information, I can see that the students are thinking and engaging with new concepts.

So many thanks,

Kind regards,

Marg Kettle

  • Well done to Gillian for delivering a zoom workshop for 63 students for the Australia Awards Vietnam Pre-briefing. These students will attend different Australian universities, not just QUT! Thank you also to Gillian your works on dealing with a number of last-minute grant requests by providing research metrics for grant applications.

Welcome Morning Tea for School of Justice Team

Our team hosted a welcome morning tea for the School of Justice team on Monday 4th April. It was held to welcome them to KG Library as they have recently moved from GP to KG Campus. It was also held to give them the opportunity to meet with our L&R Team and to showcase KG Library. The event was well attended and it was greatly appreciated by the SOJ team.

Re-opening of Level 6

We were pleased to re-open Level 6 on Tuesday 12th April after being closed for around one month for repair works due to the water damages from the extreme weather conditions in early March. We are grateful for the wonderful support and help from FM, Cleaning Services and LETS teams who have worked tirelessly to make this happen.

New Staff Member

Our warm welcome to David Cohen who has joined us from the GP LA team. David has been appointed to the part-time LA position with the Health team from the 2nd May until the 20th July. Welcome to the team David!

Fundraising Morning Tea for Red Cross

A BIG THANK YOU to Cameron Rutter, our Wellness Ambassador (who teamed up with other KG Wellness Ambassadors – Kathryn Cameron and Catherine Radbourne) for organising a fundraising morning tea on Thursday 28th April at LRS Courtyard. The fund raised will be used by Red Cross to provide a helping hand to people who were affected by the flood crisis in QLD and NSW. It will also be used for helping the with the crisis in Ukraine, Afghanistan and Tonga and other areas in need.

It was such a great get together for a good cause for the library staff, after so many things that have happened this year.

Collectively, we have raised $320.00 for Red Cross. Thank you everyone for your generosity!

Single Chat Trial

Thank you to the LA Team for your great work and contributions in the Single Chat trial that was undertaken between the 11th -29th April!

The primary goal of this trial was to test whether running a single line of chat is a viable solution to managing the chat service during semester when there are periods of unpredictable peaks in chat demand and occasionally low levels of available staff.

The total number of chat requests (received between Mon-Fri) during these weeks came to 483 and we were able to respond to 452 of these which equates to a response rate of 93.58%, which is within the range we normally expect to see on a weekend when a single line of chat is the usual.

No negative feedback was received during this trial period in relation to the impact of these service changes.

Overall, the trial can be considered a highly successful one and we can look to implementing this method as needed in the future.

Thank you again to all the LAs who consistently provide excellent service via our chat channels, we appreciate the efforts you put in to make this work for our patrons!

Ellen from our team and Gabrielle from GP represent QUT Library on this collaborative group, which includes members from all QULOC Libraries. Most representatives are practitioners who are involved in teaching and learning or who manage teams with a teaching and learning component to their roles. As liaison librarians, Ellen and Gabrielle can represent and report on many of the teaching and learning initiatives involving QUT Library and its staff, such as AIRS, teaching into faculty programmes, Study Smart and OER activities to name a few. The next meeting of the QULOC T&L Group is 17th June 2022. Well done and thank you to Ellen for your involvement and for representing our team!
