24/7 Access Trial has begun!

With many thanks to Jenny Thomas, Caroline Dunk, Michael Wallace, Teresa Butland, Cameron MacLeod and their Teams…our 24/7 access trial within the KG and GP libraries commenced at 12:01am on Monday, 21 March and the promotion campaign has started! We are collecting all types of reporting data, including entry data (with many thanks to Joanna!).

Please spread the word amongst your networks and colleagues and do let your supervisor know of any feedback you receive.

Learning and Teaching

  • Faculty of Health – Digital Capabilities Program Pilot

    • QUT is moving to Canvas as our new learning management system (LMS). Canvas will be implemented across 2022 and 2023 with the first university-wide rollout in Semester 1, 2023 and related teaching periods.
    • There’s no doubt moving to a new LMS is a sizable undertaking. To minimise the impact on our community, the LMS+ Project is working closely with all parts of the university that support learning and teaching to ensure an effective transition.
    • Sarah will represent QUT Library as a member of the LMS+ Project Business Reference Group and is already working with the project team on areas such as community site migration, enrolment, and templates. She will provide regular updates but please visit the LMS+ Project page to learn more about Canvas.
  • Library Tours – Welcome Week
    • Thank you Emma for leading this, especially at such short notice!
    • Thank you to all the Library Advisers who volunteered to provide the tours!

All welcome! The Learning and Teaching Group will be hosting an informal learning and teaching sharing session on Tuesday, 26 April at 1:30pm. Please contact me for a calendar invite.

Information Access

  • Together the Information Access Team, Document Delivery Team, Collection Access Teams and I said goodbye to VDX (Virtual Document eXchange – thanks Narelle!) on Thursday, 31 March. A great deal of work has been done by all Teams to move from VDX to Alma Resource Sharing and soon we will begin the next journey and transition to Rapido
    • We took a little time out of our day to celebrate and come together over morning tea.
  • The Information Access Team has been working with the LRS Team on issues regarding QUTex and licence agreements.
A BIG thank you Helen Davies for updating Create a Better Online You. Thank you to Rosie Glynn and Craig O’Neill also!

Spaces Service

  • Haven’t the library spaces come alive again! The statistics Joanna is sharing is amazing – 50,000 entries during the first three days of face-to-face classes. It was great to see so many people.
  • Anne Kelley (new QUT Guild Abilities Officer) and I have connected and we are planning to meet in early April. Small but significant changes were made last year to our spaces upon feedback from the QUT Guild and students, and we will continue to work together.
  • Jenny Thomas and I met with Craig Milne and Rebecca Heath to share our experience of preparing a 24/7 access trial, and submitting a proposal. Griffith Uni Library are exploring 24/7 access possibilities also.
  • Joanna and I explored some user experience (UX) activities in the KG space, asking students about their reactions to the 24/7 trial. Jenny and Sarah will do these also at GP.
  • Public holidays in semester one.
    • Kelvin Grove and Gardens Point libraries will close to the general community during the four public holidays of the 24/7 access trial period, however, the Law Library will remain open, except for Good Friday.
