Learning and Teaching

  • QUT You EOI Submission
    • In consultation with ADL&T (Health) Dr Laura Gregory, Dr Nona Press (Curriculum Learning and Design), Megan Pozzi (SSG), library colleagues, Sarah submitted an EOI for QUT You entitled Digital Literacy 101 – Survival Skills for the Digital World. Unfortunately it was unsuccessful but there were 62 submissions, with 16 successfully moving to the second EOI stage. We look forward to further QUT You opportunities and involvement with Faculties.
  • Learning and Teaching Committee – June Meeting
    • We are now an internal QUT Library committee! Want to learn more? Explore our SharePoint site.
    • Ellen Thompson spoke about Mentimeter.
    • Discussion was had regarding the types of data we collect for L&T, and what gaps there are.
    • Katya spoke about the current Copyright Tribunal matters
    • LMS+ Project Update – Saran and Jen provided an update. Sarah has created a Channel within the L&T Teams site, and will add information there when she receives it.
  • LMS+ Project – Canvas
    • Role permissions testing – Sarah was invited by the project Team to explore library access within Canvas.
    • Migration
      • All 2021/2 content will be migrated in September. The company doing the migration for QUT is called K16, and are located at KG.
      • There are 1,400 total Community Sites in BlackBoard. Those that have been flagged as “keep” will be migrated to Canvas. Those not, will be archived in BlackBoard. I have been working with the LMS+ Project Team to identify library community sites, and I have been reaching out to library staff who “own” the content.
      • The pre-2021 Blackboard content and student data will remain in Blackboard until the end of 2024. Content owners will be able to request access to the content at any anytime.
  • Faculty of Health  – Digital Capabilities Project:
    • Workshop with psychology courses PY09 and PY45 was successful
    • JISC Discovery Tool – a decision has been made not to subscribe to this resource.
    • Digital Capabilities Pressbook – with Rosie Glynn’s leadership, Rosie, Cameron Rutter and Sarah continue to build this resource.
  • Schools Program
    • Michael Wallace and Sarah presented to the Kelvin Grove College Leadership Team.

Welcome to QUT Library, Bruce! Fabulous to have Bruce join the QUT Library Team. A big thank you to Caroline for acting in the MLS position whilst Bruce was on leave.

Information Access

  • Rapido, Rapido, Rapido – the IA Team, along with Document Delivery and Collection Access, have been working tirelessly to prepare for the transition from Alma Resource Sharing to Rapido. Cathy provided an overview during a June All Staff meeting. July 11 is fast approaching!
  • OpenAthens – Jai continues to lead the project as we transition from EZproxy to OpenAthens. Not long now until we farewell EZproxy!
  • Alma outage planning
    • Sunday, 3 July, the library system, Alma, was unavailable for everyone, due to a planned data centre migration.
  • Walk-in Access
    • We reviewed our service to provide walk-in access to some of our databases, due to the change of our authentication systems. For many years our outgoing authentication system, EZProxy, enabled the IA Team to provide minimal access to some databases for our community members. This is no longer possible, particularly with our new authentication system, OpenAthens. We reviewed the data of all walk-in access PCs across all three libraries over the past 6 months, and the IA Team have found that only five databases were accessed with very minimal use (with no use within the Law Library). We feel that the removal of the access will have very little impact on our community, as Griffith University Library found when they removed access. We have a wonderful print collection (with a variety of borrowing memberships), QUT ePrints, QUT Digital Collections, and many other open access resources to offer. The community can also use the free QUT WiFi to access the QLD State Library online resources, including databases.

Have you seen the beautiful School of Design student artwork on the digital screens?
