Digital Learning

Digital learning is the ability to turn digital opportunities into personal learning gains. The capacity to identify and participate in digital learning opportunities; to use digital learning resources; to participate in learning/teaching relationships via digital media; to use digital tools (personal or organisational) for learning; to use digital tools to organise, plan and reflect on learning; to record learning events/data and use them for self-analysis, reflection and showcasing of achievement; to undertake self-assessment and participate in other forms of digital assessment; to manage attention and motivation to learn in digital settings.

Use the below guiding questions and resources to design and plan your assessment and learning resources/activities to support student development of digital learning capabilities.

  Student learning outcome examples

  • Use online resources to help develop skills
  • Manage attention and motivation to learn in digital settings
  • Organise, plan and reflect on learning, using digital resources
  • Use digital tools to organise, plan and reflect on learning

  Activities

Create an online concept map using Spiderscribe

Ask students to create a Mind Map using SpiderScribe, as part of their assessment task, and include it as an Appendix.

Use online quiz tools

Organise students into pairs and ask them to identify and use an online quiz tool, e.g. Mentimeter or Kahoot, to create a quiz based on the current subject area. Students can share the quiz with their colleagues to self-assess their knowledge. Alternatively, use GoSoapBox to create a quiz to use with the students.

Collaborate with OneNote

Set up a OneNote space for your students to collaborate and share ideas. Encourage students to explore resources such as LinkedIn Learning, the HiQ webpage,  and the video below.
