Learning Objectives

At the end of Module 5, you should be able to:

  1. Understand the links between change and innovation in organisations, and the importance of leaders’ attitudes and beliefs that drive success.
  2. Understand the impact of complexity and the organisation’s context on change initiatives.
  3. Identify the stages in a change model and apply the model to a specific context.
  4. Recognise the importance of culture for an organisation’s change and innovation agenda.
  5. Examine specific change theories and recognise the mechanisms and differences within those theories and how they might impact outcomes.

Module 5 examines the nature of change and innovation, and the importance of leadership and culture mechanisms, behaviours and attitudes that support positive outcomes. This includes exploring the impact of complexity in the public sector, and understanding the power of a ‘dual operating system’ to executing on the organisation’s strategy and its change and innovation agenda.
