Module Four: Ethics and Trust

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of your participation in Module 4, you should be able to:

  1. Understand the significant role of trust in building positive relationships.
  2. Explore the variety of definitions of trust in a range of professional contexts.
  3. Understand approaches for navigating ethical dilemmas in a changing world of work.
  4. Identify and apply frameworks to inform ethical decision making.
  5. Explore the range of resources available across the public sector to support leaders and managers in considering issues of integrity and ethics.

In this module, we look at the issue of trust and the role of leaders and managers in navigating personal and organisational ethical issues. While ethics can seem to be a somewhat theoretical or abstract topic at times, we hope that the content and readings provided – along with our workshop discussions – will help highlight the everyday, practical role ethics plays in our personal and professional lives.

We will start with a look at the topic of trust, and the role of trust as a platform for positive team relationships and team performance.  We will then explore some readings and views in relation to ethics.

The content in this module is designed to invite self-reflection and heighten your awareness of how ethics influences your management and leadership practices and decision making. We will also explore ethical dilemmas and how to respond to them as individuals and teams.
